Project Name: Humanitarian Response & DRR

Goal:

Agrajattra always attentive to response emergency through maintaining the following steps emergency Response Team Formation, Information Collection and Update, NGO’s Capacity Inventory, Risk Analysis, Scenario Development, Scenario Description, Impact Analysis, Potential Mitigation Measures, NGO’s Mitigation Measures, Response Interventions, Management Considerations & Action Planning. We are aiming to enhance :

 

  1. To improve the humanitarian needs and ensure improved access to basic food security of Extreme poor, Hard core poor, Ultra Poor families.
  2. To undertake relief and other emergency programs in the event of natural or manmade disasters like Forcibly Displaced Myanmar National’s (FDMN’s) – Rohingya Refugee Crisis, flood, TS cyclone, tornado, earthquake, and so on.
  3. Undertaking economic activities to alleviate poverty through proper training for being self-reliant.
  4. To ensure the supply of safe drinking water to HTR areas and awareness build-up in health & hygiene.
  5. To provide Water well and sanitary hygiene toilets among beneficiaries for increasing awareness on health, sanitation and environmental pollution. Also stage advocacy programs for creating mass awareness among people on the health hazards of arsenic contamination.

 

Purpose:

Therefore, disaster risk reduction (DRR) has to be seen as an integral part of the development efforts. Geographical location and land characteristics make Bangladesh, where this tool was developed one of the most disaster prone countries in the world. The country is exposed to a variety of recurrent natural hazards, including floods, cyclones, droughts and riverbank erosion, which pull down development initiatives and progresses.

 

Objectives:

To save life & assets making emergency preparedness plan & building emergency response team in order to mitigate hazard of disaster.

 

Target Beneficiary:  Our direct beneficiaries are the distressed and wretched people who are ill-fated and victim to emergency crisis. We used to made a half yearly census in every year, through this process we notice that we have covered up 59.9 k distressed people who fell victim to emergency crisis in every year through cyclone, tornado, flood or other natural calamities in may parts of Bangladesh and they’re our direct beneficiary. On the other hand, 2.99 lacs distressed people are our indirect beneficiary in every year.

  • Reactivate disaster management Committee at Union & Upazila level and build up capacity through training.
  • Formation and train Disaster Volunteers (DVs) groups as first line defense and front force of UDMC.
  • Facilitate bi- monthly meeting with UDMCs and UDVs to plan and tracking progress.
  • Equip UDMC and UDV with knowledge, skills and tools to disseminate early warning and rescue.
  • Homestead raising, shelter-centers/schools, embankment maintenance, community place maintenance, slope protection measure, mound extension & protection wall, access road, culvert, bridge, drains, footpath and water & sanitation infrastructures through CVCA.
  • Facilitate Climate Vulnerability and capacity Analysis(CVCA) process in community.
  • Promote livelihood options adapting disaster and climate change risks through IEC & Promote indigenous knowledge of DRR and CCA through awareness campaign.
  • Develop school based’ teen-ager’ brigade on DRR & CCA from school safety perspective.
  • Conduct emergency response training such as Sphere standard, humanitarian Accountability, EPP, situation reporting, need assessment for CARE and PNGO staff.
  • Facilitate to develop and implementation of Emergency Preparedness Plan (EPP) with National & local level awareness activities on DRR & CC..

Since 2007 We (AGRAJATTRA) having good experience on Food, Corrugated sheets for shelter Distribution & Civil Construction work. Agrajattra implemented “Early Recovery Support to the Flood Victims of South east part of Bangladesh” financially support by Christian Aid UK & EUROPEAN COMMISSION HUMANETARIAN AID – ECHO. The main focus of this project was food security & Livelihood development of vulnerable communities through CASH FOR WORK (CFW), CASH FOR TRAINING (CFT) & UNCONDITIONAL GRANT (UCG).  Total beneficiary: 4000 HH whose were getting Tk. 8200.00/ Beneficiary.

 

Objectives results of the action
Ø  To improve the humanitarian situation of the most vulnerable flood affected families in South East of Bangladesh.

Ø  To respond to basic humanitarian needs and ensure improved access to basic food security of the most venerable flood affected families whilst reducing their risk to future disasters.

To sustain the livelihood and fulfill their food demands. Target people those who are affected in flood victims in Cox’s Bazar area.

 v  The most flood affected households have ensured immediate food security and income generating opportunities through cash transfers, skill/hygiene training and enhanced capacity to invest in livelihoods inputs.

v  There are  3955 poor’s flood affected residence were  given cash money against cash for work, cash for training & Unconditional cash grants for rural development as well as food security of vulnerable people
